Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia’s leading teaching tertiary hospitals. The Hospital has over 600 beds and employs approximately 5,500 staff who treat over 420,000 patients every year.

Located at the Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre 4km from Perth city centre, SCGH provides a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care.  It is home to WA's only comprehensive cancer centre - the largest cancer treatment centre in the State - and is the state's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.

The Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Medical Centre is on its way to becoming the largest medical, research and educational facility in Western Australia. Since redevelopment commenced in 2010, completed projects include the multi-deck carpark, comprehensive cancer centre (DD Block), Mental Health Unit (UU Block), PathWest (PP Block), Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research (formerly the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research) (QQ Block), Central Energy Plant (HH Block) and Western Power substation.

Projects that are still in progress are the Sarich Neuroscience Research Institute, Perth Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House (all due to finish in 2016). SCGH, which first opened its doors in 1958, is named after Sir Charles Gairdner, a former governor of Western Australia.
