Alkimos is a northern coastal suburb located in Perth’s north, Western Australia, within the City of Wanneroo, approximately 42 kilometres north of the Perth CBD. Neighbouring suburbs surround it include Jindalee, Butler, Nowerup and Eglinton.
Alkimos receives its name from the Greek freighted “Alkimos” which was shipwrecked on the coast adjacent to the suburb in 1963. Since sinking the wreck has been subject to a number of strange events including ghost stories.
For the most part, the suburb is covered in native banksia woodland, scrubland and heath typical of the Swan Coastal Plain. The area is part of the Alkimos-Eglinton region
Alkimos lies roughly between the proposed Mitchell Freeway to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west.The locality is bounded to the north by Eglinton, to the east by Carabooda and to the south by the newly-developed suburbs of Butler and Jindalee.
