The Arson squad is investigating a suspicious fire at Karrakatta cemetery which caused an estimated $1 million in damage to the Norfolk Chapel and its lounge.

Firefighters were called out at around 11.30pm on Tuesday night to a fire at the Norfolk Chapel, the largest of the three indoor chapels at the cemetery.

CEO of the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board Kathlene Oliver has advised that all funerals in the Norfolk Chapel will not oocur for at least the next couple of weeks, to contact the Funeral Directors of the service you are looking to attend for any updates or to chen the  Metropolitan Cemeteries Board website for updates https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/metropolitan-cemeteries-board
